Technology Management
XBIT 4500U
The Technology Management major, offered as both BComm and BIT, will allow students to develop skills in business innovation, enterprise systems, data analytics, information technology, change management and data security. Bridging the worlds of both business and IT, students in the Technology Management major will be able to pursue a well-rounded curriculum and gain valuable exposure to both areas. This major focuses on the managerial aspects of business information technology and provides students with opportunities for hands-on experience with state-of-the-art enterprise software and analytics packages used in business and government today. Students will have a strong foundation in business and management functions, organizational processes, and external environments, with specialized expertise in information systems, business analysis, and technology management. Graduates can analyze, design, and implement business processes and technology-enabled solutions; apply recognized frameworks such as BABOK and PMBOK in project and change management; and evaluate IT investment, security, and lifecycle management decisions. They will also demonstrate competence in data management, business intelligence, and analytics to inform decision-making. Networking & IT Security

Computer networking has become an integral part of today’s business environment. The major in Networking and IT Security prepares graduates with theoretical and hands-on knowledge and skills in planning, designing, installing, operating, managing, and securing information technology infrastructure. In addition to the technical courses, the core curriculum includes mandatory courses in business and management, providing students with the necessary business background and technological skills to make significant contributions in today’s workplace. Students can design and manage scalable, secure IT networks and solutions by graduation, assessing and mitigating risks, and enhancing administration through programming and automation. They will evaluate technologies for effectiveness and security, and address legal and ethical considerations, and create clear technical documentation for diverse audiences. Accounting and Finance

The Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) (BCom) Accounting major is designed for students interested in becoming a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), and for students who want to develop a strong foundation in accounting. In addition to covering all the knowledge requirements for the CPA, our accounting major heavily emphasizes the skills and abilities needed to obtain a CPA and be a successful professional accountant. The Finance major curriculum offers a variety of courses with topic coverage that includes equity analysis, derivative securities, portfolio management, fixed income security analysis, working capital management, advanced corporate finance applications, mergers and acquisitions, international finance, financial modelling, and personal finance. The Finance major helps prepare students for the professional designations of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and to attempt the Canadian Securities Institute (CSI) Global Education Inc. exam. Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources

The Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources (OBHR) major helps students develop the skills and knowledge required to transform an organization’s most important asset, human capital, into a sustainable competitive advantage. OBHR professionals play a key role in achieving organizations’ strategic objectives by implementing human resource solutions, such as managing talent, providing training and facilitating organizational change. By graduation, students will possess comprehensive knowledge of business functions, organizational processes, and external environments, with specialized expertise in Human Resource Management (HRM). Specifically, they will apply HRM theories and practices to recruitment, training, industrial relations, health and safety, and employee motivation, critically evaluate HR tools and methods, and develop evidence-based strategies to attract, retain, and engage talent aligned with organizational goals.
